AI traffic

Track ChatGPT traffic as its own source.

We group visitors who arrive via citation links in ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot and Gemini into their own category, instead of hiding them under "Other sources". One of few analytics tools that actually shows LLM traffic for what it is: a new acquisition channel.

Who uses this?

Three concrete scenarios from real customers. No generic "for marketers" filler.

Content creator / blog

You publish a guide on Swedish tax rules. Three months later ChatGPT is your third biggest source. People ask AI about tax, AI cites you, readers click to verify. You could not see this before.

SaaS company

Perplexity recommends your product when someone asks for "alternatives to X". You see exactly how much traffic that generates and can optimize the page the AI cites (usually a comparison page).

Consultant / agency

Show clients a monthly report that includes AI citation traffic. Few in the industry measure it yet. You who do look smart, and the client gets measurable value.

How it works

01

Nothing to do

The Spårlös script is installed and runs as usual. We read the referrer field on every pageview, exactly as we do for Google or Facebook.

02

We match against our AI list

A curated list of known LLM hostnames (chatgpt.com, claude.ai, perplexity.ai and more) that we update when new AI products launch. Everything else goes into "Search" or "Other sources".

03

Its own card on the dashboard

AI sources appear as their own card on the site detail view with product names (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and so on) instead of raw hostnames. The card only shows when you actually have AI traffic. Otherwise it stays out of the way.

What you get

  • ChatGPT (chatgpt.com, chat.openai.com)
  • Claude (claude.ai)
  • Perplexity (perplexity.ai, perplexity.com)
  • Microsoft Copilot (copilot.microsoft.com)
  • Google Gemini (gemini.google.com, bard.google.com)
  • You.com, Phind, Kagi
  • Meta AI, Character.AI, Pi, Poe
  • Per-product visitor + pageview numbers
  • AI bots (GPTBot, ClaudeBot and others) are always filtered out at ingest
  • The list is updated when new AI products launch

You own 100% of your data.

No Google, no AdTech, no retargeting pixels, no "business partners" making money off your visitors in the background. Just you and Spårlös.

No third parties watching

We have no business partners in the data path. No ad pixels, no affiliate trackers, no "analytics-on-analytics" services.

We never sell your data

Not to advertisers, not to AI models, not to marketers. Your traffic is not our revenue model. Your subscription is.

All hosted in the EU

Frequently asked questions

Is ChatGPT as a source the same as ChatGPT bots scraping my site?+

No, it is the exact opposite. The bots (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, OAI-SearchBot and others) are filtered out at the User-Agent level already at ingest and never enter your database. When you see "ChatGPT" as a source it means a HUMAN clicked a citation link inside the ChatGPT chat and landed on your site. That is traffic from a real user.

Why is AI traffic interesting?+

It is a new acquisition channel. AI chats have replaced some traditional search, and when the model cites you some users click to verify or read more. Many sites rank well in ChatGPT without knowing it, and without being able to measure it. We make it measurable.

How does it compare to Google Analytics?+

GA4 shows the referrer hostname but does not group AI sources into their own category. ChatGPT traffic disappears under "Other" or gets mixed with random sites. We have an explicit AI list and show it as its own card with product names.

How is the list updated?+

Manually, when we notice a new AI product starting to drive traffic. Right now the list covers ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot, Gemini, You.com, Phind, Kagi, Meta AI, Character.AI, Pi and Poe. Missing something you see in your referrer data? Email [email protected] and we will add it.

Do AI bots affect my pageview quota?+

No. AI bots (GPTBot, ClaudeBot and others) are blocked at ingest with a 204 response before they are counted. Only real visitors count against your monthly quota.

Can I see exactly which ChatGPT conversation sent the traffic?+

No. ChatGPT only sends the hostname as the referrer (chatgpt.com), not the specific chat. That is a privacy design on OpenAI’s side and we have no more information than the hostname + what your own URL structure can show (which page the visitor landed on).

Which plan is it included in?+

All plans, including the free Hobby plan. It is just a breakdown of data you already collect (the referrer field), so it is a free add-on rather than a paid feature.
